Together with the companies Starlinger & Co – Vienna, Maplan – Ternitz and Georg Sahm GmbH & Co KG – Germany SML is a member of Starlinger Group in Vienna.

SML offices in Beijing - China, in Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia, in Surabaya – Indonesia and in Chicago - USA guarantee together with more than 60 agents optimal access to all important markets and best service worldwide.

During the past eight years, the Upper Austrian machine manufacturer has specialized in the production of plastics-co extrusion lines (multiple-layer-film lines) for the production of film and sheet, laminates and filaments.

On the film- and sheet extrusion lines various raw materials, e.g. polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester, polyamide, as well as barrier materials, can be processed. From thin stretch films with 9 µm thickness produced on a castfilm line, to transparent polyester-sheets with up to 8 mm thickness – the new standard in sheet extrusion – and the latest innovation, the sleeve touch technology - SML is the competent partner.

In the field of co extrusion-coating- and laminating-lines with working widths of up to 6,5 m for the production of flexible packaging, geotextiles and carpet backings, SML is a main supplier. More than 160 delivered lines testify the market presence in this field.

The successful development and sale of multifilament spinning lines „Austrofil“, made SML a leading supplier of lines for the production of polypropylene FDY (fully drawn yarn), POY (pre-oriented yarn) and BCF (bulked continuous filaments) yarns for belts, ropes, nets, upholstery, automotive interior, carpets or functional sports wear.

SML product range:

  • Co extrusion castfilm lines (multiple-layer castfilm lines)
  • Monoaxial stretching and thermolaminating lines
  • Co extrusion castfilm lines with integrated monoaxial stretching unit for “breathable films”
  • Sleeve touch technology
  • Coextrusion-calendering lines
  • In-inline cup production lines “From granule to the printed and ready packed cup”
  • Extrusion coating lines
  • Multifilament spinning plants “AUSTROFIL” for PP-FDY, PP-BCF, PP-POY
  • Automatic screen belt filters
  • High-speed film winders

The Austrian Federal Award for Innovation for a High-speed Film Winder, innovations like synthetic paper and waterproof but breathable film, clean room-film production lines, modern and ergonomical machine-design, as well as numerous cooperation’s with internationally successful enterprises proof for the dynamic and innovative potential of SML.

At present, SML employs 160 employees and produced a turnover of € 40 Mio in the year 2001. Almost 100 % of the lines are being exported, within Europe, to South America and to the Far East.

Luxurious Perfumes and Cosmetics Packaging

  • How to pack a Dream »
Charles Revlon, founder of Revlon Cosmetics, once said: "we are not selling crèmes, but hope wrapped up in small boxes". When it comes to packaging of luxurious perfumes and cosmetics, one will immediately think of elegant glass bottles, or stylish tubes and cans of metal, glass or plastic.

Polypropylene

  • Textile Yarns made of Polypropylene »
Fuelled by the surge in global population and by rising per capita fiber consumption, world fiber consumption has continued to grow. While in 2002 demand was 63 million tons, it is expected to reach 80 million tons by 2010.

Sleeve Touch Technology

  • Sleeve Touch Technology - SML opens up new dimensions in cast film production »
The conventional methods used to manufacture cast PP films are well known. For films having a thickness of 15 - 250 µm, cast-film lines are used, while for the range from 450 µm - 2.2 mm, sheet-extrusion lines are the state of the art. Yet, under this concept, compromises need to be made as to the film's optical and mechanical properties, especially in the case of thickness close to the processing window between these two ranges.
