ifm electronic is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs and the company also recognises that expert and readily accessible support is as important as the excellence of the products themselves. For these reasons, more than one-third of ifm electronic's worldwide staff is engaged in research, development and technical support. To ensure close and effective customer contact, ifm electronic has subsidiary offices, located in Warrington, Cannock, Edinburgh, Harrogate, Stonehouse and Dublin. All are staffed by experienced graduate engineers who are able to offer expert advice on any sensing or control requirement.

History

ifm electronic was founded in Germany in 1969, as a specialist designer and manufacturer of proximity sensors. In 1982, the company extended its product range to include photoelectric sensors and in 1985 entered the programmable controller market.. ifm electronic's UK organisation was set up in 1981 and was, at that time, a two-man operation with an annual turnover of less than £100,000. Since then the company has opened it’s regional offices and seen its sales grow to exceed £10 million per annum, making it the UK's largest specialist supplier of sensors and related products. ifm electronic now employs more than 50 people in the UK, almost half of whom are experienced engineers working in customer support roles.

ifm electronic manufactures industrial sensing and rogrammable control products to suit a wider range of applications than any other supplier. All products translate the best of modern electronics and manufacturing technology into genuine and substantial user benefits. For example, the use of surface-mounted components and flexible printed circuit boards result in exceptionally compact products and fully automated assembly with 100% testing at each production stage yields exceptional reliability. Most of ifm electronic's products are guaranteed for five years from the date of supply and all are backed by the expertise of the company's engineering services staff.
