History of Foodex Meatex
Exhibitions today are a powerful marketing medium and the exhibition which addresses the whole UK food industry is Foodex Meatex.
The first 'Meatex' took place in 1982 and proved an immediate success. Since then, the show has been held every two years, growing in size and scope at the UK's premier - and most accessible - venue, the National Exhibition Centre, near Birmingham.
In 1990, it was time to recognise the growing contribution of food processing in the success of the UK's largest meat trades exhibition. With its title changed to Meatex Foodex, the show offered all food manufacturers and producers the chance to participate in an exhibition with a proven record of attracting a quality audience at an attractive rate.
Throughout its history, in fact, the show has endeavoured to increase its scope and to broaden its appeal to the food industry as a whole. The switch in emphasis in the show's title from Meatex Foodex in 1992 to Foodex Meatex in 1994, was a reflection of this widening appeal.
In early 2005 William Reed Publishing Ltd reached an agreement to acquire Foodex Meatex and to work with the industry to develop the event. William Reed has been involved with the food industry for many years and, through titles such as The Grocer and Food Manufacture, has a strong relationship with the food market. In addition, William Reed is the organiser of the co-located events, Food & Drink Expo 2006 and CRS 2006.
