Logopak in METRO RFID initiative

Logopak International Ltd

Logopak, Europe’s most experienced supplier of industrial print and apply labelling solutions has recently launched a major RFID initiative in association with METRO.

In order to provide an incentive and allow Metro suppliers in Europe the possibility of supplying RFID on pallets of product shipped and as required by Metro, Logopak have launched an RFID “starter kit” programme.

The “starter kit programme” consists of three parts (a. b.& c.)

This is for smaller or low volume producers and comprises a Logopak VLP off-line printer with a directly connected hand held bar code scanner. As pallets arrive at the printer, their SSCC code is scanned by use of the scanner and this is written into an RFID tag by the Logopak VLP 210 printer embedded in a small label, which is also printed to identify that an RFID tag is present. This label is then hand applied to the pallet.

RFID Starter KitThis option is very similar to option (a) but includes a “RFID “Gate” by SICK the barcode and reader manufacturer. Here labels are scanned in the same manner, the SSCC code is read and then written into the RFID tag and the label printed on the VLP 210 printer and hand applied to pallets. With option b, as pallets leave this labelling station, they pass through the “SICK RFID Gate”where they are read and the data sent to an ERP version of “Logosync” software for data storage and use as product information.

This option takes the facilities offered in the previous options (a and b) and automates them using the Logopak 920 PF automatic pallet labeller. Here the RFID tag is contained in the full EAN pallet label and is applied on adjacent faces, or only on one face using the Logopak tag on demand solution. With this solution, Logopal and Logosync software suites are supplied. Data is sent to Logopak from the customers host system (SAP/WMS/BPCS etc) which is then translated into an EAN 128 compliant pallet label.

Rfid Starter Kit DeviceAs this label is printed, user specified fields are copied into the RFID tag and the label or labels are applied to the pallet. After application, the pallet is then passed through the “SICK RFID Gate” and the data read and copied into Logosync for subsequent data storage.

With these options, Metro suppliers have three choices based on their throughput and with differing cost levels to suit their business requirements, but allowing them the possibility of supplying their customers with the goods that they require and the future identification they need for product traceability and stock management.

Logopak are Europe’s most experience supplier of industrial print & apply labelling solutions, having made their first printer applicator in 1983.
