SubscribeFraneker, July 2003. Huhtamaki Protective Packaging from Franeker in the Netherlands was commissioned by Philips GmbH in Klagenfurt, Austria, to design a special positioning tray for a new product in the Philips Beauty line, the Satin Ice Optima epilator.
The Satin Ice Optima uses an ice pack to cool the sensitive skin of arms, legs, and underarm and bikini line before removing surplus hair. Thanks to the cooling effect, the skin no longer feels hot and painful after epilation.
The epilator is supplied with a set of shaving heads adapted to the sensitivity of the skin in the different parts of the body. The various parts of the system nestle comfortably in a matching case.
Huhtamaki designed and produced a positioning tray to fit in this case, in compliance with Philips’ stringent requirements. The tray had to offer optimal protection and at the same time set off the special image of this high-quality product.
Huhtamaki achieved the latter aim, among other things by giving the tray a striking mauve colour that matches the Deep Purple chosen for the Philips Beauty line’s house style.
At the same time, working within the strict dimensional tolerances available, Huhtamaki achieved optimal protection for each component.
This allowed Philips to use a standard outer casing for the product, thus yielding appreciable efficiency and economy benefits while still giving the product a recognizable face of its own.
