SIG Combibloc completes the successful combifit range: Small but splendid
For SIG Combibloc, opening up growth markets worldwide means providing packaging solutions that are in line with market developments and market trends. Especially in non-European regions, convenient single-serve formats are extremely popular packaging solutions. SIG Combibloc has de-veloped two small formats that offer the food industry new ways of setting their products apart from the competition: combifitMini and combifitSmall with the new spout combiSmart.
These two handy small formats complete the internationally successful combifit range with the typical combifit slanted top. combifitMini and combifitSmall with combiSmart spout not only offer consumers on-the-go re-freshment. They also bring attractive advantages for filling companies and the retail trade in terms of product value and differentiation.

combifitSmall makes drinking directly from the beverage carton just as easy as accurate pouring. This is basically due to the slanted top and the new three-part spout combiSmart with its higher 14.3 mm flange.
In all format sizes, combifit is a slim, stable pack that is curved outwards at the front and inwards at the back. Thanks to this eye-catching pack, even products filled in small formats can be successfully differentiated from those of the competition on the shelves. According to market analyses, consumers immediately recognise at a glance that combifit is a special premium pack. And this impression is reinforced once they take it into their hand. The ergo-nomic design makes combifit easy to hold and easy to handle.
With base dimensions of 37 x 51 mm, combifitMini is the smallest combifit beverage carton. Available with a volume of 150, 200 and 250 ml, this carton format, fitted with U-straw, is an ideal thirst-quencher for people on the move. Once the pack has been emptied, all components of the composite material can be recycled in an environment-friendly way.
Accurate pouring The same goes for combifitSmall with combiSmart spout, another small for-mat beverage carton from the combifit range that is on show at ANUGA FoodTec. With combifitSmall (available in 200, 250, 300, 330 and 350 ml) SIG Combibloc is also meeting the growing demand for small-sized beverage carton solutions that are suitable for on-the-go consumption.

combifitSmall with combiSmart spout is not only a practical container for on-the-go consumption; it is also a great help in the kitchen since products such as condensed milk, cream or sauce can be accurately poured and then re-closed until they are needed again.
A decisive advantage for the beverage industry is that beverages can be filled into combifitMini on the tried-and-tested filling machines for combiblocMini and into combifitSmall on those for combiblocSmall. Only forming station or appli-cator have to be added to complete the equipment for filling. They give the beverage cartons their typical appearance and apply the combiSmart spout in the case of combifitSmall.
Since forming and application take place after the product has been filled into the beverage carton, the filling machines can be used to fill both combibloc and the corresponding combifit formats. This means that the well-known for-mat and volume flexibility of the SIG Combibloc machine system is also avail-able for small-sized beverage cartons. The machine conversion can be com-pleted in a matter of minutes.
The combifit beverage carton is produced from so-called combifit sleeves which are printed, coated and sealed with a longitudinal seam before being delivered to the customer. The sleeves are pre-creased to give the typical combifit slanted top. The filling machine at the customer's plant first opens the sleeve into a block shape and seals the base. Then the product is filled in aseptically. Immediately after filling, the beverage carton is sealed ultrasoni-cally in the aseptic zone and the top seam is folded. Finally, the forming sta-tion gives the combifit beverage carton its typical shape and the closing fixture or drinking straw is attached.
