The new site suggests the usage of materials in structural and aesthetic packaging developments; reveals technical innovations and provides preliminary advice about the use of specific packaging materials in the design process. The website acts as a prompt to encourage an enquiry, leading to a detailed response, drawing on the individual and collective expertise of PSAG members.

Packaging Solutions Advice Group Offered A Different Perspective For Visitors At The Packaging Innovations Show

Using materials differently was the underlying message being promoted by the Packaging Solutions Advice Group on Stand Number 8180 at the Packaging Innovations Show (NEC from 27-29 September’05). This is the first time that the PSAG has had a presence at a major trade event.
Initiating, truly innovative packaging – DISTINCTIVE, EFFECTIVE, CREATIVE – is the result of a collaboration between material suppliers prepared to push the boundaries and restrictions of structure and effect for determined brand managers and ground-breaking packaging designers.
The PSAG is a group of leading international material suppliers that includes Corus Packaging Plus, Merck Pigments, SunChemical Inks and DuPont Teijin Films. Collectively they are able to provide professional advice about the use, suitability and application of their materials for diverse packaging needs providing individual expertise or the benefits of collaboration.

Rising to the challenge is what drives the PSAG, so in keeping with this philosophy our stand featured both a charicature artist and a balloon sculptor. Visitors were invited to test their skills by suggesting packaging themes or related issues which inspired Stephen Garrett to put pen and ink to paper. .
Meanwhile ‘POP’ twisted and shaped balloons into new forms – stretching the visitors’ imagination as well as the materials potential!

Many visitors were impressed by the stunning special effect bright green carrier bags which were produced especially for the show using some PSAG members materials, these came in very handy to transport home some of ‘POPS’ special creations for some lucky visitors.
At the Packaging Innovations Show expert representatives from the PSAG member companies presented a series of case studies that demonstrate the tangible results of working together. The selection of projects provided an insight into innovative use of individual materials, as well as exploring unusual combinations to solve specific problems or invent new effects. The PSAG stand endorsed the ethic behind the show of developing the role of design and innovation with designers, brand owners and marketers.
Conceptual Case Studies And Packaging Products Where Collaboration Is The Key To Success:

1) Well & Wild - Pioneering concepts for the beverage & packaging industry.
“Well & Wild” was created as a tool for the beverage and packaging industries, their designers and marketing strategists. A group of companies originating from the PSAG developed the concept for “Well & Wild” together, the initiator of the project being the pigment specialist Merck. “Well & Wild” consists of two groups of three brand concepts - each with a different inspiration, directed to different target groups and each with its own positioning.
“Well” is conceived for ‘wellness’ drinks, ranging from natural drinks to healthy drinks for both body and mind. A range of beverages was envisioned that have an enlivening affect on the mind.
“Wild” describes a group of fun drinks for special occasions or relaxing moments. It could be a really cool drink or an energy booster that dazzles by its colour or taste, or even a drink that borders on that thin edge between the acceptable and unpredictable.
2) A New Packaging Concept Product.
The members of the PSAG are combining their technical expertise and materials to develop a new packaging concept product. The development involves a specially pigmented ink system reverse printed onto polyester film which is subsequently laminated to thin gauge steel.
It is envisaged that the product will open many possibilities in the areas of steel based decorative packaging.
- Reverse pre-printed film lamination to steel offer brand owners and fillers a complete new system, which gives greatly improved scratch-resistance and an even more food safe solution by encapsulating pigmented inks.
- The uniform thickness of the film layer ensures processors a quicker and more efficient forming process.
- The new joint product offers greater scope for end-applications such as single serve portions and 3–piece steel containers.
Member representatives and performers,

‘We identified the Packaging Innovations Show as the most appropriate arena in which to raise the profile of the PSAG and are pleased with the response and interest that our stand attracted with brand managers and packaging designers. We hope that the visitors have begun to understand the enormous and untapped potential of these materials, and with our involvement at the earliest stage how they can use them to gain commercial advantage in the highly competitive retail arena. The PSAG enjoys a challenge!’
