Speed to Market

How can a Formula 1 team develop and launch a car - far more complex than most packaging - in a season? Through analysis of the F1, automotive and aerospace industries, we have identified the enabling technologies and processes that allow rapid development. By applying the relevant techniques to packaging development packaging projects can develop faster, with lower cost and less re-work, delay and risk.

Rapid development techniques allow the design and development of 3-Dimensional packaging and assemblies using digital CAD data. Once designs are approved on-screen a prototype model can be made within hours. The prototypes are working models - used to check fit, function, compatibility with production and filling lines and market research. The design can quickly be perfected at low cost.

Very early in the process you have a fully agreed design - no more judging designs from a paper technical drawing only to wait weeks and spend £thousands on tooling to then find the design is not ideal and face re-work or live with second best. Very quickly you are able to proceed with confidence into rapid scale-up or production tooling to cut time-to-market, costs and increase the certainty of NPD success. In addition it opens up the arena of custom designs for lower volumes.

We can manage this process and provide samples for you.

We can also advise on additional techniques to speed graphic design management as well as project management to ensure swift processing with the correct levels of control.

Establishing and Optimising Processes and Teams

We can benchmark, review and set up or enhance existing processes - such as the New Product Development Process - to bring this to world class standard ensuring it is effective and streamlined but with the right controls at the right places and the right people involved at the key points. Through reviewing the steps you take we can also often enable you to cut time to market, especially if the above rapid development technologies are also involved.

In parallel if you are setting up or reviewing a new Packaging development or buying team we can review how you manage and control all aspects of packaging and help to understand the skills and competencies required and whether these are best located internally or sourced externally. We help companies in suggesting optimal structures for teams and functions - number of roles, skills, roles and responsibilities, location of the team within the organisation, reporting structures etc.
