BAMFutura 10 is a new hot melt adhesive from Beardow Adams that will bond hot filled products where high temperatures and residual heat have caused other adhesives to fail. As the hot melt has a very fast speed of set, it is also resistant to shock loads immediately after bonding.

The new adhesive ensures that bonds will not fail during either production or storage, even when initial pack temperatures are as high as 75°C and temperatures in the centre of a pallet are still above ambient five or six days later.

The product is an addition to the company’s BAMFuturarange and is approved for direct food contact. Like other BAMFutura products, it is odourless, very clean running, and will not taint foodstuffs or other sensitive products.

Already, a major Scandinavian producer is hot packing products at 55 to 60°C in corrugated board bonded with BAMFutura10. The packs are then placed in storage where it can take several days for the residual heat to dissipate.

Another Scandinavian company, which manufactures garden tools, has also switched to BAMFutura 10 because its short open time, fast speed of set and high adhesive molten tack enables it to cope with short compression times – the end flap remains firmly sealed when long cartons, packed with heavy tools, drop off the end of the production line.

Graeme Nutting, Beardow Adams' UK Sales Director, commented that while hot melts are widely used for in-line bonding at high speeds, they normally rely on rapid cooling to ambient temperature to gain strength. “As this does not always suit individual production processes in hot climates or where hot products are being packed, we developed BAMFutura 10,” he said. It is presented in pastilles, which flow readily and melt down quickly, and is available in 14 and 20 kg sacks or multi-trip reusable bulk bags.

Beardow Adams manufactures BAMFutura 10 on a line dedicated to BAMFutura packaging products at its Milton Keynes, England, factory, Europe’s largest hot melt plant.

BamFutura Products

BAMFutura hot melts can be used to bond all types of packs - from vegetable boxes, cartons and cases to sift proof cartons and cereal packs.

The six products in the range include a 'universal' grade for 80%+ of applications and specialist products for deep freeze, sift proofing, 'difficult' boards, low application temperature and high heat resistance.
