As the retail sector offers an increasing array of products and brands, clarity - in every sense of the word - is becoming an increasing requirement for consumers. High clarity transparent PP trays form Faerch Plast is the answer.
Marks & Spencer in UK was well aware of this trend and wanted to re-vamp a range of ready meals in High Clarity PP Trays. The range was previously packed in a black tray within an outer cardboard skillet. They wanted to create a more modern looking piece of packaging using a squarer looking tray with sharper corners than the traditional trays used for ready meals.
Clear PP Trays A Natural Choice of Packaging Material
Together with their suppliers, Marks and Spencer did some consumer research the results of which indicated consumers would react positively to moving the whole range into clear PP from its current black material. The products packed are made with very fresh ingredients and have a high visual, colourful, impact. These two factors together made Clear PP a natural choice of packaging material.
Keeping the Environment in Focus
Environmental performance of the new pack to meet Marks & Spencer’s environmental goals was key to the development, as was space optimisation in the warehouse, transit containers, and the in-store chilled display. As a result of the new packaging format a 30% reduction in packaging compared to the previous format has been achieved.
Faerch had developed a high clarity PP as long ago as 2007. Since that time they have been refining the material recipe in order to improve its impact resistance without compromising its clarity. The new PP quality was commercialised by Faerch Plast just a few months ago. Its performance overcame any concerns and therefore made it an ideal choice. This made it an easy decision to pack the whole range into Clear PP. It’s fresh, clean, sharp look emphasising the quality, freshness, and honesty of the product.
After many tests the new, squared tray was a reality. The P2195-1A tray is sealed with a high clarity lidding film, and uses a minimal wrap around label for the required consumer information, the freshness of the product sells itself. The new format launched into Marks and Spencer stores in January.
