Faerch Plast Wins Worldstar Award

Faerch Plast has won a WorldStar Award for an innovative new plastics packaging solution designed to allow cabin crew to safely service soup on board aircraft.

The global food packaging organisation has also beat off fierce competition to be one of just five companies nominated for the prestigious ‘best-of-the-best’ WorldStar President’s Award 2009.

Believed to be an industry first, Faerch Plast’s clever bowl and lid combination features vent holes to allow vapour and excess pressure to escape during heating. In the past, heating soup whilst airbourne was considered potentially dangerous. The vapour would expand, leading to high pressure which either caused the top seal to bulge, or in some cases even to explode.

Award-Winning Plastic Packaging Solutions

Faerch Plast’s award-winning packaging solution consists of a *CPET bowl with tightly fitting lid (patent pending) to securely contain the soup and prevent spillage. Special vent holes punched along the pack top rim allows vapour and excess pressure to escape during heating. A measuring line clearly indicates how much soup the container can hold without it overflowing through the vent holes.

Three president’s awards will be presented – Gold, Silver and Bronze versions – at the award ceremony for the WorldStar winners in Beijing, China in the first week of June 2010. At the same occasion, the WorldStar Sustainability Award winners will be also announced.

WorldStar 2009 attracted 237 entries from 35 countries around the world. Out of these, 129 were selected as WorldStar winners 2009 by the jury in their meeting in Mount Lavinia, a district of Columbia, Sri Lanka, on November 17 2009. The jury consisted of 14 country representatives from the World Packaging organisation (WPO) and one representative from the International Packaging Press Organisation (IPPO).
