Coca-Cola Hellenic bottlers who were already a Logopak customer of many years for pallet labelling systems, have recently re-located two factories one in Dublin and one in Lambeg near Belfast into one 'state of the art' factory in Lisburn 20 miles from Belfast

The site, costing over £30M which was newly built in a green field, includes 6 production lines including three new “Krones” lines.

These lines were a glass line, a high speed canning line two PET lines and a PET water line, some of which were re-located and refurbished by Central Bottling a UK based company who refurbish production lines.

All of the lines have now been fitted with a Logopak 920 PF pallet labeller, two of those were new units to replace one competitors machine from Lambeg factory and one to replace a Logopak machine from Dublin which was dropped from a Fork lift truck in the move.

Logopak is also supplying 5 x “Tandem” pairs of 515 Tb tray labellers for 5 of the production lines but not for the glass line.

These tandem systems are for running at up to 70 cases per minute on the fastest lines in a main machine & back up tandem formation.

This means that the first machine in the pair is the main machine and runs most of the time, labelling al products.

When this machine misses a pack or a bad scan is seen from a bar code, the second machine in the pair labels that pack.

This is done by having two systems each fitted with a bar code scanner.

The operation is then:

  • The first machine labels all the packs.
  • The first scanner reads all the applied labels for a good read.
  • If it detects a bad read the second machine applies a label to that pack.
  • The second scanner reads all the applied labels.
  • If it detects a bad read it stops the line.

The requirement by Coca-Cola for the highest amount of packs to be labelled was then met by Logopak.

The annual throughput of the 5 production lines is 55 million labels and Logopak international of York have wone the contract for supply.
